Description

“Dravyaguna” as the word explains, the science which deals with properties and actions of herbs, is the branch of Ayurveda which helps in identification of medicinal plants, explains about their properties, actions, effects on each dosha and their common uses.

Ayurveda believes that all herbs play a major role as food as well as the medicine. Every plant is a medicine if taken properly and as per the rules of Pharmacological science. To study any herb or a plant the knowledge about the attributes like Rasa (taste), Guna (physical and pharmacological properties), Virya (biological potency), Vipaka (attributes taking origin on drug assimilation) and Prabhava (Empirical / specific effect) are needed. These attributes, separately and in various combinations, are responsible for the pharmacological activity of the drug. We see plenty of herbs and plants available all over the world and around us. Identifying them and knowing their properties and effects on Dosha is important to differentiate them as food and medicinal plants. This course Dravyaguna Vijnaniya covers the detailed explanation of above said attributes along with some examples of common plants with detailed study as listed below:
