Description

Panchakarma means five bio purificatory processes namely Vamana (therapeutic emesis), Virechana (therapeutic purgation), Nasya (Errhine therapy), Anuvasana basti (Oil enema therapy) and Niruha basti ( Decoction enema therapy). These treatments are carried out after proper preparation of the patient which includes Snehana (oleation therapy) and Swedana (sudation therapy) therapies mandatory before performing the actual detoxification treatment. This comes under the Shodhana (purification) treatment method of Ayurveda which aims at eradication of disease from the root cause. Panchakarma therapies are indicated for both healthy and diseased. Due to accumulation of metabolic toxins in the body over the period of years, this method of bio purification is advised for all. This treatment is advised for healthy persons to help in maintaining their health, improve digestion and slow down ageing process in cells thus helping in rejuvenation of body tissues. For the diseased persons, this treatment helps to address the root cause of the disease and eliminating the vitiated doshas out from the body thus preventing reoccurrence of the disease. It is also indicated prior to rasayana (rejuvenation therapy) and vajikarana (aphrodisiac therapy). So Panchakarma plays a major role in maintaining healthy life and cure of diseases.
